HEy everyone, today me and a few people were talking on irc after we just finished a game, and we started talking about how annying it is when people start befor Go is called. So we thought that it might be a good ideal to but a hold button in bolo so it would pause the game and no one could move untill the first player of the game unclicked the pause button and called go. or some thing like that. Please forgive my bad spelling and grammer  so what do you guys think ?
hrm, I suppose it depends on the implementation
You could always try the Game Start Delay timer
I like the idea of a hold button before Go, perhaps to be unpressed by the 1st player on the map (or the owner of the server if he is present). The game time delay, while also a feature of the original bolo, in my humble opinion suxs and isn't useful except in massively organized TTPB. Lots of time we're sitting there waiting for more players, and we don't know whether the extra players will come within seconds or within 10 minutes, etc... It's quite frustrating waiting 10 minutes for extra players to join ...only to have a newbie come in and start grabing bases and ruining the game...So BigGun, I like your idea.

ps. I like this 1.13 thingy :)
why not just add in a modern gamejoining interface like AOE has or starcraft or warcraft ....

When I was beta testing armoured alliance (a dos clone of bolo which was never released), there was a feature that when there was a start delay, if all people sent "go", the server would put the start delay to 10 seconds. It worked quite well, just start a game with like 2 hrs delay and everyone sends go to start.
Perhaps this would be a less drastic and short-term solution than designing a modern interface like battle.net?

its a good idea, but its kinda convoluted and not really userfriendly ... wouldn't it be better just to have a "ready" button you can press and once everyone hits ready. the game starts?

sounds like a great idea min, and also i think i heard stimpy say this but
if possible for and automatic team divider based on player ranking skill  Pastor
I think a automatic team divider is a bad idea. due to how people play their "ranks" will not nessicarily reflect their "skill" lots of people are good at 1x1, and arn't good at team games. tons of people are the other way around. so it seems misleading to attempt to divide them in any automatic way. not to mention. at any given time a teamsetup that should be a massarce turns into an awsume game due to people's mistakes and due to how people's skill levels can change day to day
hrm, I'd really prefer a button. sending "go" would require that everyone would have to know how it works.... and for that to happen it would have to explained or documented.... a big button that says GO on it on the other hand ... is much simplier ... we're trying to make things simplier to draw in more players. not making it more confusing and harder to use.

ya I suppose ... if saying go and nothing are the only choices .... personally I'd prefer a nice battle.net interface etc etc etc but I don't expect elvis to do something like that ....

A "GO" button would be cool, but then we need an "UNGO" button so people can toggle it off if they were ready and waiting, but then they suddenly spilled their beer. That way, only when everyone is in "GO" status does the game start and everyone "goes".
If we add a "GO" button, maybe a "LOCK" toggle would help too to remind people to lock games as well...
Lastly, about the matching up by ranking... I said that would be a nice thing for .net to do if we decided to run an IBL-style tourney on here. The idea was have everyone register as "HERE" each week at a set time, then let .net set up teams and matchups based on ratings. In-game teams should always be decided, since only we know how good we all really are or aren't.
I agree ... and perhaps have it say on the player list who's "ready" with checkmark or something .... this would be a good time to mention ... allowing someone to "kick" someone would maybe also be a good idea .. incase someone joins and just sits there without clicking ready
If the game were paused would this not make it so none could move, thus, you couldn't move to you correct side till it was unpaused. Maybe simply having a kicking system, where if a newbie starts they could be kicked, that way bases are reset. Would it not also be nice to have a way to deny ppl access to the server. So the owner of the server could choice who was banned from useing it. I know it would help sheeps out alot.
