I played Ren 1x1. I was all happy b/c he always talks about how he beats me etc etc. So, I had a good challenge ahead of me playing the number 5 ranked player on winbolo.net Well, before i get into the game and what happened I'm curious if anything can be done about the ranking system? I don't know what and obviously what we have here is awesome, but just like winbolo itself could it not be improved upon?
Ok, back to ren and my game. We play I pwn ren as normal. If you like you can look at fermat's gamelog's to see our past record. I think it's me 6-1 over ren. Anyways, b/c ren is #5 and got to that rank playing the darkdwarfs and sgt snakes in our community but not anyone good, he kills the game. Therefore, losing no rank and continuing to talk smack about how good he is. I don't know if Elvis and whomever else will revamp the scoring system on .net. before we played i told you i wasn't playing .net, yet i forgot to turn it off before i joined CT3. Then, i told you i would kill it before it ended. You agreed. Next, i join winbolo.net to get the "latest" maps and i see once again my name on the forums. If you ever plan on insulting someone, calling them a peon, calling them a cheat. Paste the whole log.

I've had several great 1x1s with ren that I lost, but with all the posts about him not accepting challenges from better players and not wanting to play because of rank issues and quitting after he loses his lgm and killing the game etc. , I'm wondering (if I ever get better than ren) if I'll get the shaft if I start to win. You wouldn't do that to lil' ol me would ya ren? I'm not dumpin on ya, you've been cool wit me so far. :D
Btw, this thing about rank...who gives a damn. It means nothing to me compared to having fun playing. Besides, if a rank is not earned playing players of equal or higher level, it's even more meaningless. $0.02
If I want to trash Elvis' work for some unimaginable reason, I will do it clearly and directly. (Actually, I did trash his work in one of my stupid nOOOBish posts when I first joined :oops: ) My point had nothing to do with the mechanics of the rating system; nothing to do with any dissatisfaction I have in the way they were written and and incorporated into this site, merely that the rating system has possible unfortunate influence on one player's choice of games, and my opinion that ratings are of far less concern than having fun.

after doing a bit of reading, it would appear that the elo rankings of chess players are only effected when they have tournament match's ... which means there are certain "tournaments" held throughout a year .. and if you play in those tournaments you play vs a variety of players making it so that you don't simply play someone who you know you can beat over and over and over again (such as the current system) and that is how the system is evolved. Perhaps there should be consideration for this put into our current ranking system, perhaps a open ended "rank" for non-tournament games .. and then a closed elotype system that is seperate from the non-tournament rank that would be modified based on participation in scheduled tournaments in a format similar to chess.
I propose that the rank for non-tournament games be a open ended system that is built positively rather than in the negative format ... for example .. if you play someone who is better than you .. you still gain points if you lose ... just less points than if you won ... therefore promoting people to play better players.

Noone should be ban'd. Give them a warning, then a 1 wk suspension.
The hell with just saying "Ban Min." Set a time limit (Oh, about a month) of idle time where past that time, your account is deactivated UNLESS YOU PLAY! This is where this is going, and this is the only answer. You Idle, you drop from the rankings
