Music Appreciation

Jun 01, 2004 18:08 Music Appreciation
well, this summer I'm taking some easy classes. music appreciation being one. all we do is listen to music from different ersa, like the baroque period or classical period. Anyway, I was curious to know what type of music the winbolo community listens too. Do you listen to music when you play bolo?

As far as what I like, I really listen to everything, with the exception of country music. It's just not my thing. I would say through the years my favorite bands have changed.

when i was in middle school I was all about U2 and Metallica, Run DMC, Fat Boys, LL Cool J (old stuff now, don't like his new stuff), etc

Highschool it was Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cranberries (good concerts, lotsa women), Rage Against the Machine, Classical music, and even Enya. Oh, I almost forgot about Snoop, Dre, Eazy-E, Das Efx, Wu-tang Clan...

In college I discovered the Smashing Pumpkins, Phish, NIN, Korn, Tool, Hole, Rusted Root, Dave Matthews Band. I ended up following Phish going to a majority of their concerts throughout my early college years. I may have been the only black hippie at the shows but it was fun.

when I took time off from school I became a raver for a few years. I listened to lots of techno and house. Such as DJ skribble, DJ venom, Bad Boy bill, Bam Bam, Louie Devito, etc etc Also I got into Tupac, Tribe called called quest,

Now I live down south in Mississippi, I listen to rap and hip hop mostly, like Master P, Juvenile, Lil Scrappy, Flip, Trillville.

so what bands do you people like or what songs?

I majored in music ed. in college and am a music teacher, so I can give you some help in your music apprec. class if you need it.

Sky you left out one very important genre in your little poll... JAZZ???? Hellooooooooo, it's the original uniquely American art form, how can you leave that off?????? That would have been my response to the poll, but I just put Punk/hard rock etc. instead. I like older rock like Zeppelin or the Doors or Bealtes or the Who, but I like some of the groups from today too. Actually Jet is pretty cool 'cause they're all about harkening back to the days of those older groups.

I really hate Jet... their stop-and-go style of music pisses me off. My favorite band right now is Tool, although when I was little I liked softer stuff. I did like listening to Enya and other softer bands. Now I'm more into the harder type of music, but I do occasionally listen to softer stuff.

KoRn is also another one of my favorite bands, as well as Rage Against the Machine. I also like A Perfect Circle, although not to the same degree that I like Tool. Red Hot Chilli Peppers does one of my favorite songs "Breaking the Girl", and I like a few other songs of theirs that I've heard. As for Staind... most of it is kinda overplayed shit, but I do like one of their songs. I don't know the name of the song, but part of it goes "...but you were just too busy with yourself..."

I've also been listening to some Slipknot lately, although I didn't like their sound at first. I'd downloaded one of their songs before, thought it was utter shit and threw it out. But I'd heard such a hype about them that I decided that I didn't give them enough of a chance.

Actually that playlist that min posted is titled "Liz", but it is playing off of min's machine because he has a better stereo then me. Min's playlist is not quiet as diverse.

I chose classical, because it is the mother of all music, without it, we would not have the theory that has created the music we all listen to and love today. I listen to pretty much everything, I've even started to warm up to rap. The one genre that I think I can't stand would have to be country gosple, it combines two of my most disliked genres (and my mom listens to it religiously *gag*)

hahaha. thats great. good to see some people have fun in the forums. if your ''warming up'' to hip hop try a group called jurassic 5. not your everyday bling bling i got cars and fo shizzle. btw Type-o-negitive! hells yeah...long time on that band. if u like type o, try corrosion of comformity. and if u like oldies but with a punk twist. me first and the gimmie gimmies is the best cover band known on this earth.

It's a local band around here called "Trailer Kings". It's on the softer side of rock. I've only heard two of those songs on there... "My Sunday Best" kinda sucks, but "Follow" is a good song.
