Moderator request?

Aug 05, 2004 20:20 Moderator request?
I think we need someone moderate these forums better, not saying you guys aren't doing a good job, but I've been seeing alot of nonsense posted, a whole lot of spam, just wondering if you need someone that has nothing better to do moderate the forums. But I guess it just be me since other forums I'm joined up to are alot more strict on these issues.
Aug 05, 2004 20:44
I think the're trying to give us almost unbridled speech
unless it is something completely taboo i.e.: pornographic links, etc.
in some ways I do think the mods allow too much to continue but in other ways... it's kinda nice not having to feel like you have a baby-sitter on another computer

uh......you have less than thirty people on your forum. Winbolo has lots and it just wouldn't be fun w/o the "free speech". I also live on another forum, with strict rules and guidelines keeping ppl from posting anything REMOTELY off topic, and it's not half as fun as WinBolo.net, because there is less sense of "community" due to the fact that if some mod doesn't want something said, they will just delete it.
Aug 06, 2004 00:22
Good points, MM. I for one appreciate entertainment. Here, I can count on several moronic topics and dozens of laff-your-ass-off idiotic posts per week. :D
Aug 06, 2004 01:03
pssah. Free speech? Why would we want that on the internet which is like a huge freedom movement...
Aug 06, 2004 01:27
We the moderators have our hands tied becuase of a strict policy of not doing anything about the nonsense .... Everytime we try to update the forum policy some "induhviduals" (you know who you are) snivel and whine and bitch and whine some more until elvis decides to do nothing instead of updating the policy. Quite a number of times policies that would keep this place clean, fully transparent, and improve the enviroment of this forum have been suggested and then shot down with some bullshit remarks about free speech. Sorry to say, this isn't a free speech zone, we're not infringing your ability to speech freely by having a policy that allows moderators to take action if excessive behavior is seen. This is a internet chat forum, we can't infringe on your right to speech your opinion freely. We however can restrict what you say on this forum, if you don't like it, feel free to lobby your congressman about it. But this whole arguement is pointless, since elvis will probably not get around to updating the policy, just like he never got around to creating a proper policy for the irc.winbolo.com #winbolo chat room, even though we requested that he did.

Yay! Winbolo.net is screwed! At least it isn't populated like xfn is, if we had that many people here it would be a living hell, well I guess my idea got shot down, all well...

From the 8 pages of resulting post I don't know if the community came to an agreement on it.

Well our community has alot of people who think there should be no mods or any rules and that they should be able to post and do anything that they want to, but we need guidelines to follow and I think we need somebody to enforce them, hence an update and mods that have no life and can be around all day long(me,lol pathetic I know) to enforce these rules. One thing I noticed that theres a voting thing to have a post locked and whatever, I don't agree with that, any mod should have the right to close a topic, if they did close something that was following the rules and nothing wrong with it and then they should be warned, if they did it again on purpose then they should be de-modded.

Far as I know, that was only MM that said that. 'nuff said there.

justification for moderating forums:

Yes thats the post that convinced me that there should be something done, though is not limited to just that one.

In general, with a large group, you need to have a facilitator(s) bringing all the ideas together to form a consensus. Thinking it will happened all by itself is just wishful thinking.
Aug 06, 2004 17:49
i think that elvis is trying to be the good guy to everyone, so he's not trying to make a policy. if he makes a more strict policy, there are always a few ppl that won't like it, but if it gets rid of those whiners, who really cares? it WILL improve the community, and since elvis owns it, he can do whatever the hell he wants to. maybe a good idea would be to let the general chat be nonsense, just the way it is, but maybe the others should stay on track a little more.
Elvis, don't be afraid to be the bad guy. Have a vote, yes to the stricter policy or no. if more than 60% or so say yes, stricter policy. i wouldnt' mind, and i don't think the good ppl of the community would, either. i think the smiley war in general chat was something good, until my browser locked, but hey, no porno or anything, so hey, let it go.

It just angers me as how some people can post all this crap and nothing is done about it, and if Elvis goes through with a more strict policy the winbolo community should be behind him all the way, if some people disagree and starts bs-ing about the new policy they should be banned for a time period, and if they come back again doing the same thing they should be banned and deleted.

free speech mean anything to u? some people post here becase they can say what they want, when they want to. the problem is some people cant take it.
Aug 06, 2004 21:11
Did you sign up to the forums yourself or were you forced? This is Elvis's site and he can do anything he wants to it, it doesn't take anything away from free speech, you can still say things that relate to winbolo, I don't come here to read to spam since its not related to winbolo, nor do I post spam. I'm not saying that here you can only talk about winbolo, but we should have someone around here more often to delete useless spam, you can bring up dumb topics like "Where do you live?" That should be fine, but things like "How much do you hate so and so?", which is proned to spam and flamming, I also believe there should be less personal attacks.

thats what alot of people say, but by moderating what you say on this forum... how is that in anyway stopping you from speaking freely? .... you can still sit on your front porch, and mutter about how good/bad you think the current presidency is. You can still freely lobby your governing body about things you don't like .... without procecusion.

Free speech on a internet forum is an oxymoron.

How can you expect the community to come to an agreement? These are human beings we are talking about here! Bickering is the natural condition. Just implement a FMP that mirrors what other successful web forums use. Have min help you...it's obvious he knows what to do. To those who will whine; turn a deaf ear.
