What Makes A Vet?

Nov 01, 2004 02:57 What Makes A Vet?
I've been thinking about this for a while, what makes a vet a vet and a n00b a n00b? There is no real definition, except i noticed in a few past
posts, Ren said he was a 1yr vet. Just being here 1 year make him a vet or is it by skill? I found winbolo the end of may 2003. I have almost no skill, because I don't play too often against other ppl. Im learnin. Im a n00b, skillwise, but I kno how to play the game. Anyways, what makes a vet and what makes a n00b?

usually you need some degree to work on animals. or you need to be in a major war, like when I lost my right arm in nam.

A vet is a guy that doesn't need to tell all other players they are noobs, because the other players got nowhere to refuel or likewise. He just shows them they are noobs because heis so much better. He doesn't get mad when somebody mines his base or spike him, he just cools off and retake the pill. I am still a noob even though I played since 1993, I can't handle my feelings and I always yell at people they are newbies when they do something unexpected. // Sniper, soon killing a lgm near you

vet means lots of things. the tech. term is someone who has played in mac days. another way to put it is someone who has more skill then the advrage player. or....somone that really does not have much skill but knows the rules. like not to early start, and just basicly gets the flow of the game. it all depends on the way someone says (or types) Vet for the meaning of the word.

Ren doesn't fall into either catagory. He is not vet nor n00b, he is just gaaay.

I think FUBAR hit the nail on the head. A vet is someone who can deal with the eb and flow of the game and not get panicky. A vet is someone who knows what he (or she) should be doing even if things are not going well.

Some important lessons in becoming a vet:
- Know when NOT to attack. This is VERY important! If things are not going well for your side and very few have builders, DO NOT attack!! Defense is easier than offense.

- Know when NOT to build tarmac to the other teams pills! If things are not going well for your side and very few have builders, DO NOT pave the way to encouraging spikes!!

- Know when NOT to mine!! Do NOT leave miles of craters between your pills and the spawn spots! When things get heated, you WILL have to get back there quickly!
OR
- Know when to mine!! When you mine to leave a water trail to your base, make it STRAIGHT and WIDE. It is silly to fall off your boat or get back to your base with 1/2 or NO trees.

Thats my 2 cents.

the definition of vet in this game varies depending on who you talk too. Personally I feel its strongly related to attitude, I don't feel people like ren are 'vets' ...

I don't get mad over the game, I find it really funny when people get frustrated, lol.

My personal opinion of a vet is someone that has A) been around a long time or B) has been around a decent while and is really good.

and "really good" means really good ONLINE.

sure, you can be a vet at your school.....

And I agree with Min...no offense to anyone

Welcome to Winbolo BM, ya shitkickin Timberlander! Tell me sumfin, you still got that map with the two halves and the huge walls in the middle with that one narrow road separating them that you used during Bolofest 93? What was the name of that puppy, cuz I asked TB and he couldn't remember either.

That might have been 'Umaine 42-1-2', which I remember well.

Probably, I also usually agree with min.

To continue with the topic, 'vets' are generally people who played bolo 'back in the day' and got good, then returned to winbolo later, for example, hard8(samhain), Lancelot, Severian, Madscout, Spartacus, etc If you can find their old nick on r.g.b then chances are, they are a vet. Just like the definition of "veteran" for war means someone who's been to war, and come back not dead. Which means people like myself (even though I've been playing winbolo for quite a long time) are not vets.

Jeez Min, take a vacation! Go off and not fight for what you want to play you believe in! :P

We'll stamp your card vet when you return

I agree with Min's definition....
Nov 07, 2004 23:18
When I think of a vet I think of a person who's made an impression on the majority of the community for being a good player, as well as earning their respect.
Nov 08, 2004 12:46
Respect?~! Guess I'll never be a vet.

I hate to break it to you ven (and all you others who would *like* to see min leave the winbolo world) it will never happen. Sure he leaves IRC but he never actually leaves, he still always plays. So according to Min’s own definition, he will never consider himself a vet.

in case you didn't know, a winbolo player does not HAVE to be a vet OR a noob, they can be neither

the world is not bipolar

(but you are, because god hates you.)

Well, that's true that there are a lot of gray areas on this topic however, if one gets beat by me in a 1x1 they are definitely a noob.

On another note...God does not hate people. He hates what people do.
