as min said earlier, this isnt about winning money, this is about getting people to commit to play the tournament, instead of bail after saying they will join.
ok how about this. you send 1 dollar. if you win your first match up you get 2 dollars. if you lose it you lose 1 dollar.
if you cant spare 1 dollar to play a tournament, then that's fine. it just tells me you arn't committed, and so i nor the other committed players would want you in anyway, so please by all means, fuck off. or possibley you are too poor to spare a dollar, like q-man seems to be, in which case, you should probably be finding a job instead of playing winbolo. either that or you are some 11 year old who frankly, i dont want in the tournament anyways. 11 year olds cant be depended on for crap. also, there are stupid "get paid to write surveys" or "get paid to read email" etc, that all pay at least a dollar. you can spend an hour and do that, and make your every-dollar-counts-dollar-for-free-cuz-im-a-cheap-ass-qmandabom-that-has-probably-never-paid-anyone-a-tip-or-donated-to-a-charity-cuz-i-hate-you.
also, if you are too lazy to make a paypal account to input 1 dollar, which is as easy as going to the site, click twice, type in your email, confirm, then either use a creditcard or your bank account to send it one dollar, then i suspect you are too lazy to plan a schedule and organize games at given times, with given opponents.
as for madmaxx, you know why you were banned. also, perhaps cussing at the person who set tha ban isnt the most productive strategy to be unbanned.
as for "oh but there is no webpage" if there are 10 people who will play the tourny, one will be put up. why waste my time when so far 99% of the people are just bitching at me anyways?
if the tourny was free, i am sure lots of tracker newbies, and passer-by new players will say "oh ill join" and then disappear. why am i sure? cuz that is what happened before.

Kudos to Underdog for taking the time to think this through and spending the time to write it up. Several of us know from experience it's not easy to spend the time and energy to do stuff related for the winbolo community.
I agree with Fermat that I see lots of potential problems with paying an entry fee. It's a good idea in the sense that it will definetely commit people to playing the game. However, making it a pay tourney - raises the stakes for people and with winbolo being so unstable - so bug laden - it can raise the nastyness level a few notches if someone feels they were dealt unfairly.
And finally - didn't Skywalker's single elimination tournament work out where everyone actually played their game? Sure there was some bumps, but in the end didn't everyone play and didn't we get a clear winner? And those of us who didn't play got to enjoy seeing the result of the tourney - especially with Stick's analysis and stuff.
Anyway good luck in your tourney UD no matter what shape it takes! I for one would enjoy seeing a match-up with charts and analysis even if I don't take part in it.
ps. I like Min's idea of everyone who were in the top half gets double their money - with those on the second half losing their money - IF Winbolo was stable enough.
The reason I like min's idea of rewarding those who were in the top half is that I'm pretty sure 90% of us know who are the most likely to end up in the top 3 spots - or at least the top 2 spots. However, it's a little murkier knowing who will end 4,5,6th place - and it gives a great goal for those who would never have a shot of placing in the top 3.
