ok, this went from general Irc talk to action. Me and face(zzz) are thinking of actualy making a Java bolo. Something cross platform so that mac users arent left out. but we are thinking of making it a little diffrent.
I.E.
- Mini Map
- better resouloution
- better ally ID
- better chat interface
- (insert your suggestions here)
also some server side issues
-ping filters
-other lag issues.
just a start, add whatever suggestions you think are feesable...
Thank You.
p.s. Elvis if your still kicking around give us some input, even possibly help us get it off the ground. Thanks.
I doubt this is the best place to be posting stuff about making a bolo clone. Besides who cares what features it has if you don't even have a basic game done? ... try making something, then ask what minor glitzy crap players would want.

Aircraft direct fire support
UAV's - Unmanned Air Vehicles for reconnaissance
Indirect long range fire capability and C4I Scouts or laser range finders for targeting
Multi-Round Simultaneous Impact capability (MSRI - rounds)
Mines with seismic and metal detection capability
Labels for LGM (so you don't shoot your own) :)
only one option for me...
For when you are sick of the game...
a 50-megaton thermonuclear device... that should kill every thing..!
Or, even if they survived, the radiation levels should get them within minutes.

What min is trying to say, is that there's been a lot of talk about creating a clone over the past decade. Many dozens have talked about creating a full windows bolo clone, both before and after Winbolo was created and released. Of all that talk, only two clones have really been created - of which only one was released publicly due to copyright problems. So, you can understand the extreme skeptisism from those of us who have been around for a while and have seen a lot of talk bring nothing.
So go for it if you really have the dedication, the time, and the know-how to really do it. The odds are strongly against you, but then again, once in a while, someone beats the odds. Elvis andWinbolo is proof.
Is it just me or does the poster spammer who created the "ddddd" post prevents the posts to be kept to a normal size? I see each paragraph streching on one line.
There's hundreds of 2d networked tank games whose only difference from WinBolo is the interface and rule book.
If you engineer beforehand it really shouldn't take that long to develop javabolo. Getting caught up in "well 20 people have tried and 19 have failed - it's pointless to start" isn't very worthwhile.
On a side note, I know of 5 javabolos, three of which are supposedly still under construction. Here's to knuckles/face having the first released javabolo!
im all for doing it, i have the know how, and the time, for a solid 2 months at least.
If elvis would supply the source with strict confidentiality it woud save tons of time, and allow me to work on
stupid Cf suggestions.
ps, I edited spammers post. Added carriage returns, and changed the size.

Thank you for editing SPAMers post. I didn't want to go near it. It might be someone i know.

p.s., I bet binny baby laden is killed b4 u get the source code
no, i mean no disrespect to elvis at all. dont get me wrong, i would never care about profits. it would be purely for experience, i believe in open source software, i would love to help elvis if hes working on 1.15, i know theres some problems with the current version, so thats all im saying....
Since the 'Newest' version of Bolo was taken from the object code. Meaning they dis-assembled Bolo, it should be a minor inconvenience to acquire a dis-assembler and figure out what Elvis did.
Now recreating Bolo for the Mac is much easier since in the Mac world everything is an object. You can cut and paste as ewe please.
Go for it, quit being a quiche eater…. Can ewe read assembler? Should be a piece of cake… Expect production version in a couple of days.

Many many people over the years have wanted to look at the source code for Winbolo.....
Seems there are several people now with programming capabilities and experience...hmmmmmm.
I do remember asking Elvis a few years ago if in the future he had abondoned Winbolo would he be willing to give up the source code. He said yeah. I think the criteria we said was that if he hadn't worked on Winbolo for two years straight, then that could be considered abondonment and he'd be willing to give up the source code. I don't know though if he remembers that conversation.
Shoulda got that in writing!
except that he has worked on it in the past 2 years, just hasn't released anything yet. Gotta love gratittude.

However impossible this may sound, could there be a new winbolo released every six months? Work on one problem, when that's fixed, release the new version. Maybe incorporate an update seeker to check if there are any patches needed, kind of like Windows Updates.
Elvis would just release a new .exe file or whatever, and it would auto-get the new code.
Would this work?

Oh, and knuck? I think it would be best to just look at how winbolo plays and improve it in your javabolo. If you're writing it for learning/more experience, getting the source code wouldn't be the best way to achieve that, would it?
Maybe Elvis could get some partners, though. Converting Winbolo to java would be the most total and complete bomb in the universe. Bring the mac players over... that would be 125% extreme!
