It seems to me that there are many more former macboloers playing winbolo, then there are current macboloers playing bolo.

I play mac bolo sometimes. When my son has friends over we fire up a few old macs and have a game. It doesn't run too smoothly on my iBook, but that's ok.

If you guys want Elvis to write code it would behoove you to pay the registration fee. I'm proud to say I've paid and if Elvis decides to code an OSX version of Winbolo, I'll gladly pay for that one, too.

Support shareware authors and they will support you.

That may hold true for a number of shareware authors.

However, I'm not sure it applies in this case. In the conversations I've had with Elvis, while he does seem to appreciate people paying their shareware licenses, he never seemed to really care that much about it. My impression has been that he doesn't really keep track of who has payed and how much he's gotten overall.

Furthermore, the winbolo base of players is really insignificant when it comes to the amount of time it takes for Elvis to code. Thus, even if winbolo received a 100% registration rate from everyone who payed their shares, I doubt that it would be economically advantageous for Elvis to code more winbolo stuff over spending time at his day job.

Finally, he is also paying for winbolo.net out of his own pocket. Even though there is a paypall donation box, I'm willing to be he has paid out much more to maintain winbolo.net then he has received donations. Yet he continues to pay for it without any public complaint on his part that I am aware of.

Therefore, it seems to me, Elvis does the coding and maintenance of winbolo.net purely for his own enjoyment of coding winbolo, and the satisfication out of helping people play a game he himself enjoyed a lot. How much money he receives from shareware would seem to be irrelevant to him on whether to continue working on coding winbolo.

This isn't to say we shouldn't pay our shareware, as we all should. We should pay it as a way of saying "Thank You" for your past effort, but not as a way of trying to goade him into taking future action.
