Damnit, people never learn...
Whilst it's made clear to me that bluesnake seems to believe his story about me giving him a hack, to all who have ears, listen.
I swear in the name of Truth and of the Sacred Texts that I did not give bluesnake nor anyone else anything at all, whether it be hacks, maps, etc. I utter this profound truth with every ounce of my being. Sealed in power, It has been made known!
I UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY SWEAR THAT WHAT I SPEAK IS THE ABSOLUTE AND UNALTERED TRUTH.
Shit, it annoys me. I've been calm about it for most of this topic, but I'm really starting to lose my cool. Bluesnake, shut the hell up you damn slanderous kid!
why should i trust u ,u said u beat me in a 1x1 but u didn't
now can sum1 tell me how ta post a file???? :(
fyi i don't lie im telling the truth
I've listened to this conversation long enough. Sak does have the hack, because he used it in a game with me. He was playing with it to see how it worked. His using it had no outcome on the game. It was actually funny to see him flying by and 100mph (160kph). The speed is controled by a lever that sets the acceleration rate, and it is hotkey enabled. So you can turn it on and off when you want.
So I had someone else who had the hack email it to me. I first looked at a hex dump of the application to see what system calls it was using, and the object dependencies. Most of what happened is not system call oriented. It attached to the program space and determines the port the application is using. So I disassembled the hack. it does stuff with the port the best i can tell.
So, i got me a packet sniffer and began watching normal traffic during the course of a game. I was looking at the contents of each UDP packet to try and figure out what the inbound and outbound packets represent. Well I kind of starting running out of time to work on it, so i fired the hack up. Not what i really wanted to do, because i don't trust software from such a dubious source (trojans, etc..).
I still need to run the sniffer while the hack is running; but at this point my best guess is that it duplicates the outbound packets and pumps these on the outbound side. This may be similar to how the invisibility hack works.
I probably won't get a chance to run the sniffer while using the hack until this weekend. And if anyone is wondering how i am doing my testing... I start a network game, and immediately lock the game to new players. The hack is very evident even in the standalone environment. Different sound when it fires.
Also, if you increase the speed too much, it will hang the game... my guess is too many packets. But i'll know this answer by the end of this weekend.
As far as a fix is concerned, if it proves to be increasing the packet rate. that should be an easy enough fix. Keep a running count of inbound packets from a game session, if it exceeds a certain threshold, drop the player from the game.
The hack i really want to look at though is the one where you can go right up to an opponents pill, and never get shot at. I saw that one used again over the weekend.
Elvis, if you don't want me looking at the nuts and bolts, let me know and i'll stop what i'm doing. If it's ok with you, I might have a couple of questions about the UDP packet content... only if my current theory doesn't pan out.
Either way, I know now of 3 hacks for WInbolo.
