WinBolo Dev Update

Thought it was about time to give an update on the things that are (mostly) already in the next version of WinBolo.

* Server running from client. WinBoloDS is no longer required to be run to start a multiplayer game from WinBolo. This will help people who can't start games. Not all dedicated server options will be available from the client initially. Example: Setting maximum player limit, custom binding address.

* Skin support - Custom graphics and sounds can now be loaded from a zip file and used. There isn't a "choose your skin" window yet. This is also Windows only at this stage.

* New server command - Say - Allows server admins to send a message to all players in the game. Other items from the list may be implemented in this version as well.

* Fix for driving into a enemy base shooting and sending your man out to farm kills him.

* Other fixes.

As always, no ETA on release date is provided.

btw, is there any particualr reason why the versions go 1.12,1.13,etc., instead of just plain 1,2,3,4,5?

skins...cooool.......theres just one thing i dont understand........."fix for driving into enemy base while shooting and sending ur builder out and killing him..."
ummmm........u mean like raping an enemy base and at the same time going to get a tree....then when ur builder comes back he gets shot cuzza u shooting......?

Any chance of displaying the IPs of players in WinBoloDS like they were in 1.10 and earlier? It made it easier for admins to ban unruly players.

What ETA?

Unlike Microsoft, Elvis doesn't give ETA's that are missed by miles and miles and miles.

Also unlike Microsoft, the software works better.

You been playing the same winbolo as the rest of us Tim? or did u never see the old versions? some of the bugs made you search everywhere for the microsoft logo but its know where to be found, and also with the server, can u add something to make it easy in the winblows guys? for locking and unlocking etc :D

What would you suggest? The words lock and unlock are provided. Unfortunately windows does not natively support sending of signals like the linux version. According to Microsoft the answer is to replace SIGUSR1/SIGUSR2 with a custom WM message sent to the window class of the application. This would still require someone to create an application to locate the dedicated server window class and then to send it a custom message.

Winbolods would have to create a dummy hidden window and check for messages received into it to activate the lock/unlock. It currently doesn't use any windows classes.

Yeah I did play some of the earlier versions, and the bugs were nowhere near as bad as the windows one I was having at the time. Wasn't entirely sure it was a Winbolo bug coz Windows was so bad for me at the time...

why can't you have it listen to for example gameport-1000 a udp or tcp/ip connection saying "password" (set by user) lock/unlock/quit/say etc
and tim, I have never had that many problems with windows, and i used the mistake edition for a year.
and finding the window hwnd is not that difficult in many programming languages, so spawners etc would be easy and external apps could be made for mirc etc

if you have this that the person who is hosting the game can kick the player like matt007 and stuff because they mess around (only the host person can )If you have it that would be great :)

:idea: The tracker should display wether a game is locked or not. I hate clicking on 20 games just to find that they are locked. It should say so that I can go right to the games that i can enter. Thank you 8)
