that way nobody would have an advantage of knowing a map better than someone else and, cloud makes some damn good maps imo. lemme know what you think

Although such a decision would be about as popular as adding content filters to college dorm room internet connections, I definitely think at least one of the three maps should be something that isn't played every day. In fact, I favor a system in which each player gets to pick a "common" map, then the third game tiebreaker is one of your choice that is revealed only on the day of the tournament. That third map should be something uncommon. Let people think on their tank treads a little bit. If they've been brainwashed by CT3, time to face the music.

BTW, there are some maps (Baringi, Daputa, Skew Toy, and Etaka spring to mind) where one player can get really screwed if he"guesses wrong" on the baserun. That is, if both players start east, and the NE player goes west while the SE player goes north, it's entirely possible for the NE player to get three corners (NE, NW, SW) on the baserun. I'm not absolutely convinced that's a fatal flaw, but it's something to consider when choosing the maps.

Best of luck to everyone, especially Indiana, who may have the toughest round one match up.

Like indy had a chance verse anyone in this tourney. And if he did, I feel sorry for that player.

underdog will be making a map list for me. So we can get things underway. Another note is that Sticks has a site devoted to the tourney shoing players win/loss record. Unfortunately I can't provide the link.

*I hope everyone is getting lots of practice 1x1s in, so there are no excuses when Indiana rolls over everyone. Wait Indy faces sev first round, doh!! fyi, all the ranking order was done randomly.

Lastyly, I wanted to thank everyone for their input, advice, and help. Mad props to the winbolo community, even those that don't get to play much anymore or at all gave ideas to me.

It's not definate, but the tournament could start this coming Sunday with a break over Thanksgiving depending on availibility of contestants.

Link to said site with record and bracket:

the map list has been made and is available at ftp://ftp.winbolo.us/upload/tourneymaplist.txt

i tried going to that in IE and it didnt work. It works fine with a proper ftp client such as cuteftp or smartftp, etc etc

sky, i request you put the full rules, brackets, registration and all info on one page, and not mixed around on a bunch that arnt linked to each other

if anyone would be kind enough to put up the map list on a site, to be linked from the tourney site, id appreciate that

if there is anything particularily wrong or absent in the map list, please contact me

i made the map list a good mix or classics and new stuff, as well as some rare ones no one plays. they have all been hand picked, looked over, by myself and sticks, and none of them are bullsh!t maps.

please dont bitch and whine your map wasnt added, cuz chances are im too nice to tell you its a pos. but ya, its a pos.

certain well known maps were taken out for a reason. like messed up spawns, too big, or other maps of similar play style are already present. thought was put into the map list, so dont well at me without any thought, or i shall respond as i respond to most fools who yell uneducated things at me on the street. you dont want to know what that is. mainly cuz i havnt thought of it. but i assure you it involves much scoffing and ignoring!

also, it is my understanding that in a match up, player A chooses his/her map from the list, next game player B does the same, and the tie breaker is a predetermined map. instead of making this predetermined map a map like ct3, where all the great tarmac pill warriors rule the night, and bore the *&% out of me, i say make it a random one from the list, determined moments before the map.

also, in the results of the games, id like to see what map was played, when, and for how long somewhere. perhaps this info can be reported.

maybe even a player commentary of what went right (or wrong)? to spice it up and give it a sporty sort of feel

now we just need some cheerleaders and we're set! *cough*sky*cough*

Do you realize that thanksgiving used to actually be a fall harvest which would happen before frost hit in whatever area you lived in, because at one point in the not too distant past people lived off the land - like *gasp* a farm, hard to believe I know  Originally the Canadian government set aside November 6th for the "official" holiday date for Thanksgiving, but was then changed to the second Monday in October, probably because by November 1st frost had well hit, and many places probably even had snow, therefore it would have been well after the harvest. The US, being south of Canada, will stay warmer longer in the year, so it would only be natural that their harvest would fall after ours. They too, also had many dates for Thanksgiving. But in reality it does not matter where the holiday of Thanksgiving falls, because it is the thought behind the holiday that matters.

Madd Maxx, I think you need to start keeping your Anti-American comments to yourself. You can be a Canadian and a proud one, but in that you should understand what you are proud of and why. I know Canada and the US have had, and still have their differences, but it doesn't mean you have to hate them. It's like when your best friend does or says something that you don't agree with, or is maybe hurtful to you; does it mean you stop being friends? I would hope, I hope it would be that you have your squabble, get over it, and then don't let it ruin the friendship. In badmouthing anyone, not just Americans, you are just making yourself look bad. I know if I were American judging Canadians upon the hatred spewed forth from your mouth, I wouldn't like Canadians very much, hell; I don't like your breed of Canadian! I am a very proud Canadian, and I have my dislikes for things that the American government (Bush) has done to our country, but in that I am not Anti-American.

What do you have against her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II? I think monarchs as heads of state are nice, they remind us of the past, when the british empire was HUGE (this wasn't too long ago). Who do u have as YOUR head of state? Some stupid texan who likes picking on little countries like Iraq! I MUCH prefer our Queen to you president

Either way I think they're both stupid, but I guess you have to have some kind of goverment with all the people in this world. Then again, the world is destroying itself anyway. :?

Heh, poor HostileToy. Despite her dozens of experiences to the contrary, she still expects me to have a point and/or make sense. I'd have given up on me long ago.

Sticks: your tourney analysis page rox.

I dont' get why the official map list. In IBL we didn't seem to have that much of a problem in choosing the maps, and we had 4 players to satisfy, not just 2. I guess each to his own, it's good to have different tourney organizator experiment with different ways of running tourneys. I guess the good thing with this method is that a wider varierity of maps could be played instead of just having the standard chew toy 3.map as the defactor map, and force players (if this tourney is repeated) to learn to be able to adapt to more maps instead of memorizing just the stratigical way to play ct3 and yet be clueless about how to play other maps.
