A longtime wish of mine has been to have team designations. I'm not sure if I already brought this up or not, but I'm feeling like a lazy bastard. But you'd be able to distinguish not only between neutral and enemy pillboxes, but the pillboxes of each team. For instance, green team, blue team, red team. This would cut down on allying the whole game in opens and would give you a clearer idea of who you're fighting.
I agree with Nova : one different color for each team would be a very good thing.
Hmm, I just started playinga few days ago, so first of al I dont have a complete grip on the game, and secondly I dont have a nostalgic feeling that will make me think certain things would ruin the game. Since this is just a wishlist, it wont hurt anone to post my thoughts here.
You should have the option to build a better, metallic colored wall, which would be more resistant to enemy fire, but also much more expensive to build.
There should be a type of terrian that is uttley impassable and indestructable, this woulld add a unique twist on levels, especially ones with "maze" designs.
The ability to drive backwards, at least slowly.
Color coded tanks would be great as mentioned before.

An idea I had, but rathe decided against was the OPTION to choose to have currents in rivers or the ocean.
Another one I thought of but doesnt really work too well is to have the ability to lay a "timed /mine" that would blow up within a given time.
2 tank sizes/types. each type with its own strength, weaknesses..

Ive played macbolo a bit, years ago, but i didnt touch it for years until a few days ago.
Super-trees: trees that count for more than one tree. It'd be ideal to have on open maps where it's impossible to have enough trees on your super-base. Perhaps also a tree-cache?
Maybe a option to set trees to have a certain level of resources. SO you could make some have five trees worth, or 3, or all.

Im sure some of you are purists, and dont want anything changed.. But even if it was altred, the original always remains..
I thought it would be interesing to have elevation and cliffs. you wouldnt have to aim down, becuase it would always aim at the ground.
Have elevation would also mean you could put lifs on the beach so you coul only enter in certain areas. (you can kinda do this with walls..)
Clown, even though I'd be surprised if even one of these ideas here were implemented into the game, I'm trying to keep this thread semi-realistic. Therefore nukes=out. I did like most of your other ideas, though.
I was joking avbout the nukes, hopefully no one took that suggestion seriously. Anyways, I have another idea i thought i would mention, its hard to explain kinda.
A swivelling turret/pillbox. Like a tank the stationary weapon only has one gun, and only covers a small area in front of it, unlike the current pillboxes. It has the ability to swivel to aim in 360 degrees around it, but does not cover all areas at once.
this is a "smart pillbox" meaning it will not blindly fire if a friendly pillbox is bloking its firing path. But, a good tactic would be to have two people attack it from opposite sides, because it can only aim one place at a time, and takes awhile to swivel around.
dismissing it saying it has a unfair advantage, or does not, is not really a issue. Because the spead of which it fires, the speed of with it swivels, and the health it has all can be manipulated to make it even.
It would just give more strategical options while playing the game, along with the metallic wall.
For the metallic wall, i was thinking mainly about when designing a level, so you can make the levels more strategic, with impassable areas..
